Vicuña

Alpaca fiber

Vicuña is the finest animal fiber in the world, with an average diameter of 12 microns. This graceful animal, living at 4000 to 5000 meters above sea level, mainly in the Peruvian Andes, yields 250 grams of incomparable soft and light hair every two years.

These wild animals are shorn alive during a respectful ceremony called “Chaccu”; which is steeped in the legend and tradition handed down by the ancestors. Full of grace and elegance, the vicuña today canters freely in the Andean highlands after having defeated the danger of its extinction.

To the ancient Incas, the vicuña was akin to gold, worn only by royalty and treated with the utmost respect.

INTIFIL vicuña is a range of finished articles in the highest possible quality of vicuña fiber, produced entirely in Peru. It leaves a creative space in which we have the privilege of expressing ourselves through the world’s finest noble fiber.
